Concept: Extracting Identity

The design for the Megnichem office is a study in high-density functionality and brand storytelling. Tasked with fitting a comprehensive program—including a toilet, pantry, 8-seater conference room, and multi-user cabins—into a compact, light-deprived footprint, we turned to the client’s own industry for inspiration. By extracting the golden-yellow hue of maple sap (a core raw material in their adhesives), we infused the space with a “bright and cheerful” energy that counteracts the lack of natural light.

Key Highlights

  • Geometric Optimization: We leveraged an oddly protruding square in the floor plate to house the service core (toilet/pantry) and conference room. By replacing thick masonry with ultra-thin marble partitions, we reclaimed vital square footage for the primary workspace.
  • The “Sap” Palette: To brighten the interior, we utilized a custom-dyed veneer that mimics the translucent gold of maple sap. This vibrant tone is balanced by mountain-inspired textures on the façade, grounding the brand’s industrial roots in a nature-led aesthetic.
  • Fluid Productivity: In the staff area, we moved away from restrictive cubicles in favor of a continuous running counter. This open-bench system, paired with accessible open niches for filing, creates a collaborative environment that feels significantly larger than its physical dimensions.
  • Sculptural Meeting Hub: The 8-seater conference table features an architectural pedestal base—wider at the top and narrow at the base—maximizing legroom while serving as a central design anchor.
  • Cohesive Cabin Design: All three executive cabins feature bespoke desks with a unified design language. To maintain visual lightness, the storage units are finished in wall-matching tones, allowing the sharp, veneer-clad tables to stand out as bold, independent shapes.
  • Sample Integration: The conference room serves as both a meeting space and a library, featuring integrated storage that displays raw material samples in a mix of open and enclosed niches.
